How to Litter Train Cats?

<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on">
A lot of people are wondering about how to litter train a cat or how to get a cat back to using the litter box. In our time we almost immediately start making assumptions that the cats litter problems arise because of stress, jealousy or even un-happiness. Very often though, cats who have used the litter box but aren't doing that anymore have physical complaints that need to be addressed. These problems can range from diabetes and kidney problems to different kinds of infections in the bladder. For this reason it is recommended to always have your kitten examined by a trained vet or have the vet at least take a urine sample to exclude physical issues. This guide will focus on what can be done to litter train cats after it already has been established that the cat is not suffering from any known sicknesses. Litter problems with kittens Getting a young kitten used to the litter box should not be a difficult thing to do. Show the kitten a litter box which it can reach (with a lower edge). Show the cat inside the litter box a few times and you'll see that the kitten will make it a habit to use its new toilet instead of your expensive carpet. Be careful to not put the kittens toilet near where the cat eats and drinks. If you have a large living space, you should let the kitten spend some time in the same room where you've put the litter box. Chances are that the young cat otherwise won't be able to find the toilet if he's able to run freely through your home. If the process isn't going as smoothly as described above then something is going wrong in the learning process. It could also indicate that the kitten was removed from it's mother too early. In this case prepare yourself for a ride where a lot of patience will be required from your side.

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgw-9pix1Z7k-6TKDpUNr8qgUo4qE95_VVj8VMBRZeIlyepwQTNX7Q9DvA0Ie-ZHWxP0phKadvYG4o2SZUfildn6AQRY-yNlMB5sW08wpRw5Ic-MwTQ_BqZLATTlHdwBEhvs7KAblUVMMce/s1600/cat+litter+training.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgw-9pix1Z7k-6TKDpUNr8qgUo4qE95_VVj8VMBRZeIlyepwQTNX7Q9DvA0Ie-ZHWxP0phKadvYG4o2SZUfildn6AQRY-yNlMB5sW08wpRw5Ic-MwTQ_BqZLATTlHdwBEhvs7KAblUVMMce/s1600/cat+litter+training.jpg" width="266"></a></div>
 In those moments when you are unable to keep an eye on your kitten, it's recommended to lock the kitten up in a confined space with a litter box in it. This way the cat will not have any other choice but to use the toilet when he needs to. If you let the cat roam through your home freely, you should put him back on the litter box every once in a while to make him grasp the idea of an assigned toilet.Please do award good behavior with a treat or a cuddle, the litter box experience should be something very positive to you cat and make the cat want to use the toilet. It would also be wise to take one of his paws and gently move it through the sand simulating the covering of his droppings. It will take some patience but the kitten will understand eventually. However, keep in mind that for a young cat to start using the litter box should be like a second nature and it should take you very little effort to achieve this. Adult cats Litter problems with neutered cats can be divided in two separate problems:     The cat sits down and urinates after which you discover a wet stain on the floor.     The cat sprays an object and you find it dripping down or the stains there of. The cat who performs one or both of the above, and whose tests have shown no signs of any sickness might act this way because:     There has been a significant change in your household making the cat insecure. This can be the coming of a baby or the introduction of a new kitten in your home.
     You changed the living environment. This can vary from re-modelling to just replacing a sofa making the cat protest against the change by urinating outside of the litter box. It might also be that your cats wants you to clean the litter box more often.
     There is a lot of fighting in the home or the cat is picking up negative energy in general, making him/her nervous.
     You are using bleach in your cleaning. Cats LOVE to urinate on anything that smells remotely like bleach. Same goes for old shoes that haven't seen a fresh smell in a while. That's toilet heaven for a cat! Litter training adult cats The main thing you should know is that you should never clean cat urine with bleach. This will only strengthen the cats desire to keep urinating in that same spot. Try cleaning the stain with something that smells like apples or lemon and then putting a sheet of tin foil over it. This should prevent the cat from coming back to the same spot to urinate. If your kitty has been urinating on different spots in your home, this might be a sign of a deeper behavioral problem and should probably indicate to you to not place clothing or expensive purses on the floor. In the unlikely case that you cat has been showing this behavior for a longer period of time and nothing else helps, it's time to re-train your cat from the start. The training method itself might seem mean but it's the only possible way to break this unwanted habit. Next step would be removing your friend from your home and that's something we want to avoid at all costs. Training Lock the cat up in a very small space, presumably a bathroom, utility room or something similar together with the litter box. Don't use any mats, carpets or other floor covers or any cages or blankets. Provide the cat with food and water and leave him/her here for about three to four days. After this period of time, release the cat from the room only when you are able to monitor the kitty closely. Prepare a water sprayer or a water pistol and give the cat a few squirts every time you see him getting ready to urinate in your home. Put him back in the shower cabin or the "lock up" space directly after the water-scare. This will learn the cat to associate his/her needs with the litter box again and the cat will be able to freely roam your house without accidents in no time.

Cat Behavior - What is Normal Cat Behavior?

<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on">
Cat behavior problems are a common cause of concern for many cat owners. Many cat owners can tell when a behavior is abnormal, but for some people reviewing what is normal behavior is a good refresher.

Cat behavior problems are one of the most common reasons why cats are given over to shelters by their owners. The two most common reasons for this are feline aggression and litter box problems. For many owners they reach a point where they have tried everything and can not tolerate the problem anymore and so are forced to give the cat up.

For many people when learning about cat behavior it is important that they should learn what normal cat behavior is.

Cats normally eat several small meals a day. Normally their meal size is about 10 to 20 grams which is approximately the size of mouse. Cats like eating several small meals a day which helps them with digestion. Remember it not abnormal for a wild cat not to eat for a day to two between meals. Lions and tigers routinely go for days between meals in Africa.

Also cats love to take naps during the day and all night long. Cats can be very active at night. Some new owners get concerned when their cat sleeps all the time. While sometimes there might be a medical concern, most times it is just a normal cat behavior.

Cats also like to cover their feces in the litter box. Many cat owners get overly concerned when a cat does not cover its feces in the litter box. Most cats learn to do this from their mothers so this cat my have grown up by itself as a stray.

How to Engage Your Cat in Play and Exercise to Lose Weight

<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on">
The image of the lazy cat, lying in the sun on the windowsill is a
remarkably common one. Owners take it for granted that cats are lazy by
nature and simply don't need exercise. This is just not the case and if a
 cat is left with few stimuli and chances to exercise, she will likely
begin to put on pounds.

The truth is that it is very difficult for
 a obese cat to lose weight. Your cat will turn obese when her activity
level is insufficient to burn the energy from the food she consumes. All
 of this extra food energy is stored away in a cat's body as fat.

If
 you have come to realize that your cat has become obese, a cat owner's
first responsibility is to find a way to reduce this weight. Always
consult your veterinarian before you push forward to change your cat's
diet immediately. The vet may have some suggestions that can help you
make a good decision about her diet and other ways you can consider to
help reduce your cat's weight.

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhY1zFicz1AWhsmJw_m1Q2fDzu88wluUOtPHfn7GiqUlayjjySB8qOT9f_VBRP3xcB8_t-a8A0wwh0aBbT6d3qvmDi9kJkjcr7zSOOxUfHuRhXh9Tcn9iewMzlryL0nO0M08eItdRZcyYJA/s1600/weight+cats.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="345" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhY1zFicz1AWhsmJw_m1Q2fDzu88wluUOtPHfn7GiqUlayjjySB8qOT9f_VBRP3xcB8_t-a8A0wwh0aBbT6d3qvmDi9kJkjcr7zSOOxUfHuRhXh9Tcn9iewMzlryL0nO0M08eItdRZcyYJA/s1600/weight+cats.jpg" width="400"></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>

The best way to first prevent
obesity and reduce a cat's obesity back to a healthy weight is exercise.
 Cats love to play and you can use this to your advantage. If your cat
is nervous or afraid around you, this will be difficult and you may have
 to spend some time moving slowly if you are going to engage your pet in
 play.
Luckily for cat owners, cats are playful by nature.

There
are many types of cat toys in every pet stores for you to choose from.
When you are buying toys for your cat, remember that cats don't really
care about shapes or colors. Cats like games that engage their instincts
 for hunting and pursuit. Games where cats need to pounce or sneak are
especially fun for them.

You may have to try out a couple of toys
or cat games before you find one that she likes. You can also leave toys
 in her favorite spots to allow her to play on her own. There are some
toys that allows you to hang out of your drawers, they have dangling
items that engage your cat to jump and hit at them.

Reversing your
 cat's obesity is going to take some time and you will have to remain
patient. The important thing to remember is that in order for play to be
 effective, it must be done regularly. The occasional game is simply not
 going to do anything to curb a cat's weight. It will help if you can
make a schedule that will ensure regular play times. Naturally, your cat
 might not necessarily want to play at that particular time, it will
take time to understand her routine and preferences but try not to miss a
 play session whenever possible.

If a cat is uninterested in the toys, try making them more appealing with catnip or treats.

Find Out How To Cure Kennel Cough In Cats

<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on">
<div id="article-content">
 Kennel cough is a very common respiratory illness that is
typically found in dogs. However it is possible that your cat could
develop this illness. While it is rare, there are times when a cat can
be exposed to and develop this disease. This disease does have a medical
 name and it is infectious tracheobronchitis.

This disease attacks the
upper respiratory tracts of dogs, cats, pigs, squirrels, and even
humans. While this particular sickness is not known for being deadly,
when left untreated it can lead to more serious issues as well as death.
 In the feline this disease is much more serious than in a dog. Lets
take a few moments to discuss the severity of this issue as well as some
 of the signs to look for if you fear that your cat might have this
illness.

The most common symptom of the disease is a hard, hacking
 cough. This cough can be very distracting and can present itself as
choking. Another common symptom of kennel cough is a discharge from the
nose and eyes. In felines it is not uncommon for the animal to run a
slight fever.

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi3cM-DLY7lVCR18eAoQwYyJyIe-ISaGvsqKEqTMscIaH7kdmVEJINCs3qQUweujpt4EWHbOailYvGm9f8cOJoeLdtN7t36zTiK0cG-6SCIeK1bZaIAGWXO_tn517sqEmleJn-dHjC-fKBl/s1600/coughing+in+cats.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi3cM-DLY7lVCR18eAoQwYyJyIe-ISaGvsqKEqTMscIaH7kdmVEJINCs3qQUweujpt4EWHbOailYvGm9f8cOJoeLdtN7t36zTiK0cG-6SCIeK1bZaIAGWXO_tn517sqEmleJn-dHjC-fKBl/s1600/coughing+in+cats.jpg" width="320"></a></div>

While a dog will not typically lose its appetite, a cat is
 much different. Feline kennel cough is known to keep the animal from
eating. If you notice any of these signs in your cat you might need to
check closer for the presence of kennel cough. Cats have a very
different immune system than dogs and this disease, while not harmful to
 most dogs, can be a very serious issue for your cat.

When it
comes to feline kennel cough it is always best to seek the help of a
medical professional. However if you are determined to treat the animal
at home and are looking for a few ideas as to the best way to treat,
always remember that your cat needs to be properly hydrated.

This might
sound odd but many people will fail to remember that the cat needs to
drink plenty of fluids. Always make sure that your feline friend has as
much water as it needs. Antibiotics are the best treatment for your cat
but if you do not have any antibiotics then the next best option is to
use natural supplements. One of the most common natural cures is raw
honey.

Another great option for treating kennel in cats is a humidifier.
 Not only will this help the animal breath more freely, it will also
help reduce the amount of coughing that the animal does. When the
coughing is reduced it reduces the inflammation in the throat.

This
 is a serious disease that needs to be handled as such. While the
average cat will not develop the symptoms of this disease, most cats are
 carriers of the disease. This means that you need to be vigilant about
keeping your animal healthy. Always maintain a clean environment and
make sure that your animal has a consistent temperature to lice in.
Cooler temperatures can lead to a higher chance of contracting kennel
cough.

How To Cut Your Cat's Claws Without Losing Your Skin In The Process

<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on">
<div id="article-content">
Cat lovers are known to pamper their pets and you are probably no
 different. Your kitty has all the latest toys and comforts including
self-cleaning litter box, a treat dispenser, cat grass, every cat toy
known to the pet shop owner, and a<a href="http://givememycat.blogspot.com/2014/03/my-cat-scratches-everything-what-can-i.html"> variety of scratching</a> posts but kitty
 wants to use the sofa instead.

Nothing you have done to try to
deter her from scratching as worked and you are at your wits end. You
have tried all the sprays and even the double sided tape that is
supposed to scare her away due to the stickiness but all she does is
walk over a little and continue to sharpen her claws on a different
spot. So what are you to do? Does the concept of trimming your cat's
claws scare you to death? Let me show you how to make it easier.

First
 off, don't try to rush the process of trimming your cat's nails, all
you will get out of that is a ticked off cat and lots of bites and
<a href="http://givememycat.blogspot.com/2014/03/my-cat-scratches-everything-what-can-i.html">scratches</a>! Take the time to let her get used to having her claws touched
 and rubbed. You should do this often and not just went you want to cut
her nails, if not the cat will associate the touching with getting her
nails cut and you do not want that. Do a little research on the
technique so that you are comfortable with it. You probably know that
there is a blood vessel that runs in the claws that not only hurts if
nicked, but will also bleed badly. A wound in that area is highly
susceptible to infection as well due to her digging in the bacteria
filled litter box.

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi48xAFO_3BNEkGOGJD8utdousplRbv6uXfFlbkRustxUIfQM-_Dp9AubZ67bNh5OT-vv4LA_A4TB23QnK0i26S4yoVjYEW0EHjdvCqIzSHKiJLW5VEbgsN6WAqrWCP8dKQKdPYbXBQsNkM/s1600/cuts+cats.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="265" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi48xAFO_3BNEkGOGJD8utdousplRbv6uXfFlbkRustxUIfQM-_Dp9AubZ67bNh5OT-vv4LA_A4TB23QnK0i26S4yoVjYEW0EHjdvCqIzSHKiJLW5VEbgsN6WAqrWCP8dKQKdPYbXBQsNkM/s1600/cuts+cats.JPG" width="400"></a></div>

Before you begin to actually do the clipping,
make sure that you have all the things you think you will need. Of
course, the most important part of your tool kit will be the clippers.
You need a good quality pair that are only for the cat. Get some
guillotine style surgical steel clippers from a pet specialty store and
try to get some that have an extra blade. Practice a little with them
before the live event so that you are comfortable using them.

Next
 you need a large towel to wrap your cat in case she doesn't chill out
and calm down. This way you can keep her wrapped up and work on one paw
at a time. You may need to draft a friend or roommate into helping you
if you have particularly unruly kitty. Finally, you want to be sure that
 you have a good light source so that you can see the blood vessel in
the claw and avoid cutting it. It is best to leave them a little long
than to cut them to the quick.

I am not giving you a guarantee
that following my advice will make you successful in getting your cat's
claws trimmed, if you have one of those arrogant kitties that have a
mind of their own it may take you several tries over a period of days to
 get them all trimmed. Just remember, there is no law that says you have
 to get them all done in one sitting, if you get one done that's a step
in the right direction. If you insist on trying to cut the claws and
your cat is freaking out she will run from you the next time she sees
you with the clippers.

Cat Hair Loss - How to Resolve This Issue

<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on">
<div id="article-content">
 If your cat is suffering from hair loss problem then you must go
through the whole article in which I am going to discuss the solution of
 factors which creates this problem.

There are many reasons which
cause the cat hair loss. The major reason that makes your beloved kitty
losing its hair is due to the allergy of flea saliva which makes your
pet to behave badly. Cats are quite sensitive by nature. Therefore, they
 behave allergic to the fleas and this cause irritation in their
behaviors.

To get rid of this problem, make regular visits to vet for an
 appropriate health check. This regular practice will surely help your
kitty to get through severe heath conditions and can also overcome the
hair loss problem of your pet.

Besides this, if the kitty is not
able to groom by itself then this can be another reason of this issue
with your pet. All the cats are not capable enough to groom themselves.
So, the failure of not getting groomed by the pet itself results in
creating many problems in which losing of fur is the major one.

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhRBRZukBT9-tc7PfIV_fTwiQU2YH00h0NUeHz9bg4DUckiiHW145eW8mDQftrYyONYdGrIAnQuMmVlPWNzpwkO0lSpeGN_bufgga14qOhR7sNT-OqNdCdOe6lBS0Q-9fdBpWYC7ggoGSzV/s1600/loss+of+hair+in+cats.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="247" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhRBRZukBT9-tc7PfIV_fTwiQU2YH00h0NUeHz9bg4DUckiiHW145eW8mDQftrYyONYdGrIAnQuMmVlPWNzpwkO0lSpeGN_bufgga14qOhR7sNT-OqNdCdOe6lBS0Q-9fdBpWYC7ggoGSzV/s1600/loss+of+hair+in+cats.jpg" width="400"></a></div>

You can
get rid of this problem by getting your cat groomed with a cat hair
brush or comb on regular basis. Cats are prone to stay clean and tidy
and for this, they lick their fur. This habit of kitties can also lead
to the hair loss problem. So, as a cat owner it is your duty to make
your kitty familiar with specially designed comb for cats by regular
combing. This will make your cat used to of combing rather than licking
its body and will surely minimize the chances of your pet's hair loss
problems.

Another major reason of this issue in pets could be due
to any stress or tension. In cats, feelings of stress and anxiety can
arise mainly due to the loss of their fellow cat or their territory
which results as this problem. To resolve this issue, the owner must try
 to provide his kitty with everything it needs like cat supplies, toys
to play with and its own territory which will <a href="http://givememycat.blogspot.com/2014/03/methods-of-keeping-cats-out-of-your.html">keep the pet</a> far away from
 worries and tensions.

Symptoms and Treatment For Bug Bites in Cats

<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on">
<div id="article-content">
 All cats have to suffer bug bites at some point during their
lives. While some cats are less susceptible, some are more susceptible
to bites from bugs and insects. Similarly, some bug bites on cats can be
 cured with simple home remedies, while some cases might need immediate
attention of a veterinarian. However, most cases can be easily treated
at home if you are able to spot the symptoms and apply the appropriate<a href="http://givememycat.blogspot.com/2014/03/excessive-grooming-in-cats.html"> treatment in time</a>.

Symptoms
Since it is highly doubtful for
you to have witnessed the actual occurrence of the bite, the only clues
for your cats problem is the symptoms displayed by them. The symptoms of
 cat bug bites can range from mild to extremely severe reactions
depending on the type of bug or insect responsible and the unique
characteristics of each cat.

Fleas and ticks are some of the most
common critters to infest your pet. The symptoms for flea bites are
usually constant scratching and biting of various body parts. If the cat
 has hypersensitivity then the symptoms are more severe and can lead to
loss of hair and might even cause ulcers in the lips and skin disease.
Mosquito
 bites are not as common as flea bites and they are most often isolated,
 exhibiting symptoms like swelling, itching and redness. Swelling and
pain are some of the symptoms for stings from bees and wasps. The site
of bite might also be warm to touch. Severe reactions to stings include
vomiting, redness around the eyes and lips, respiratory problems and
rapid swelling of the bite site. Immediate medical assistance is
required if your pet exhibits severe symptoms.

Diagnosis
Most
 cat bug bites are mild and can be diagnosed with a physical exam by a
veterinarian. However, some severe cases might need a skin test for
accurate diagnosis of the problem and to implement proper treatment for
cat bug bites.

Treatment
Most bug bites on cats can be
treated in a similar manner. However, specific treatments might be
needed for certain severe cases, like flea bites. Generally, fleas
infest the whole body of your cat and even its environment. Treatment
involves using flea control products on your pet and its environment for
 an extended period of time to get rid of the adult fleas and the eggs.
In addition, you might also have to use medications to relieve the
irritation and itching.

For stings from bees and wasps it is
better to apply the medication after removing the stinger from the site.
 Gently scraping away the stinger is way better than removing it with
tweezers, as it might cause the bee or wasp venom to spread further into
 your pets system.

It is important to prevent your cat from
scratching or biting the site of bite as it will worsen the condition
and might lead to infection. To reduce pain and swelling you can use a
cold compress and a mixture of baking soda and water is a good remedy to
 relieve the itching and irritation. Make sure that you trim the hair
around the bite site before applying any treatment. You can also use
topical ointments that contain natural ingredients like Echinacea, Aloe
Vera, red alder and Tea Tree oil to treat cat bug bites effectively.
